The reign of King Ahab, Queen Jezebel and their children, told in the Books of Kings, is considered one of the most evil periods in Jewish history. But two of Israel’s greatest prophets arose at that time, Elijah and Elisha.  We will look at this period through history, Midrash and folklore.  Elijah was considered the harbinger of the Messiah and we’ll explore what that means in Jewish tradition.  Also, Elijah and Elisha played an important roll in the New Testament, as they were considered prototypes of Jesus.  We will examine how these prophets took us from the Jewish story to the Christian story.
