Congregation Beth Israel is in the midst of constructing a new, fully accessible building, which is being accomplished in stages.

  • The congregation began strategic planning for the next 100 years in the early 1990s.
  • The Board formally approved the project in 2000, and fundraising began immediately.
  • The land, at 751 San Juan Boulevard, was purchased in 2003.
  • Next, the site and building were designed.
  • The land was cleared and prepared for construction in early 2009. The site work required building a road, a large drainage pond, and the blasting of bedrock, then the foundation was built.
  • The shell was completed in 2014.
  • From High Holy Days 2014 to Jan. 4, 2016, we successfully raised more than $1 million in our Million$Match campaign, which allowed us to continue construction to ready the building for occupancy.
  • We successfully made our $75,000 Match Challenge in November 2016, adding $150,000 to the building fund for the month.
  • The old building on Broadway was sold in January 2017 and the congregation moved out in October 2017.
  • The antique lights from 2200 Broadway were re-furbished and hung in the foyer of the new building in September 2017.
  • During the summer and fall of 2017 the project focused on the exterior site work required for occupancy.
  • In March 2018, we were able to move into our new building, with some projects (and fundraising) still under way.
